Too close to the Nationals? Sailors conserving their energy?

Who knows. The bottom line was that very few fronted up for the first race on Saturday morning.

A fresh breeze greeted the 4 sailors that made it to the start-line. A broken centreplate prevented Kyle Knott starting, Peter Neilsen found it difficult to make it from a hospital bed and Dave Ketteridge was dealing with patients.

The breeze gradually filled in and Mark Fisher moved smartly into the lead followed by Matt Johnson, the positions remained the same with Andrew Rowett and Kevin Knott being the other two finishers.

The afternoon race had a little more breeze, Kyle had a repaired centreboard, and Dave a rigged boat. All these had little effect on Mark who again proved to good, Matt finished second, Dave third, Kevin fourth and Kyle fifth. Andrew suffered from gear breakage and had to retire.

We arrived Sunday morning to be greeted by a stiff northerly, the pundits in the yacht club said we should wait until it dropped out. It did not, the wind merely increased throughout the day.

As had happened Saturday a few internationals were out sailing but took no part in the race. Again Mark dominated with the minor places filled by Matt and Dave. The fourth race started directly after the third had finished did little to halt Mark's progress, another victory with the same group filling the minor places.

As the wind increased the enthusiasm to compete decreased and by common agreement the afternoon race was not sailed.
